JOHN BRETT - 1983 - 2008

  

 

This page is dedicated to the life of John Brett, John was a huge fan of Welsh Rugby and a great collector of groggs. John regularly attended matches and rugby dinners and was a great a great favourite with the players. Scroll down to see photos of John and some of the groggs in his collection...............

 

GRAHAM HENRY

 

John's first visit to the Millennium Stadium was for the 1999 World Cup opening ceremony & match Wales v Argentina, This was all thanks to meeting Graham Henry who organised complimentary tickets for John. John is seen above at a Graham Henry book signing and to the right at the stadium prior to kick off.

 

THE ALL BLACKS

 

NEIL JENKINS

 

John with his favourite player Neil Jenknis. Neil always greeted John "hi-a-butt". Neil also came to see John when he was very ill in Llandough Hospital.

 

 

Neil Jenkins contribution to the 'Perfect Day' was immeasurable, His conversion of the Scott Gibbs try, see above grogg were the last points scored in the five nations tournament.

THE 2005 GRAND SLAM

 

The 2005 Wales Grand Slam ended 27 years of drought for the Welsh National team, under coach Mike Ruddock, the team played wonderful rugby and swept all before them ! John's collection includes groggs of many of this Welsh team. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

GARETH EDWARDS

 

A regular visitor to the Brett home was Gareth Edwards. Voted the greatest rugby player ever, Edwards is also the most popular grogg of all time. The grogg illustrated left is one of a limited edition of 25 showing Gareth in Barbarians kit, in 1973 he scored what is regarded as the greatest try ever against New Zealand . The grogg illustrated below is a 9" classic collection grogg.  

 

OTHER INTERNATIONALS

 

Philippe Sella has signed the base of his grogg !!

 

 

John's first rugby dinner where he met Australian legend David Campese. At this dinner Clive Rowlands gave John his British Lions cufflinks and John also met the 1991 Rugby World Cup final referee Derek Bevan. 

 

 

WELSH INTERNATIONALS

 

 

At a rugby dinner chatting to Ieuan Evans, pictured behind John is non other than Mr Grogg himself John Hughes. Over the years John the Groggs became a great friend to John.

  Pictured above, John in Llandough Hospital with famous welsh rugby players, Gareth Edwards, John Dawes, Clive Rowlands, Mervyn Davies & J.J Williams. For 2 years John bravely tried to combat his muscular dystrophy. In 2008 John predicted that Wales would again win another Grand Slam, sadly he never saw his dream come true. John passed away aged 24 on 29th Feb 2008,  he lived for his Rugby .
