AUTOGRAPH PHOTO CARD INFORMATION

Modern technology allowed an innovative system of collecting autographs to be achieved. Starting in 1997 a pre-printed card with an autograph box was taken to matches, the reminder of the card was blank. On acquiring the autograph of a player or personality, information relating to the autograph, player photo, name and country was post-printed onto the card. The first match at which this system was introduced was the Neath v Saracens match at the Gnoll in 1997. Three Saracens world class players, Michael Lynagh, Philippe Sella and Francois Pienaar were the first three cards in the Rugby Relics series. The system was adopted by other collectors who adapted it to suit their technological ability and/or collecting needs.

Miles Sainsbury adaptation - Miles immediately started collecting the cards in 1997 and by 1999 was collecting and printing his own cards. The numbering of Miles' series follows the Rugby Relics numbering system to the late 200s (after 289 and before 293) then branches out on its own from there. Miles passed away, circa 2015 and we purchased the collection, The highest number we've seen in Miles' numbering is 1283. Most of the cards in Miles' collection post split have been marked with an 'm' in pencil after the number.
