WALES 1900 JERSEY - THE FIRST GOLDEN ERA A jersey that belonged to Bob Thomas a member of the 1900 Wales Triple Crown team. Thomas played in all three matches of Wales' second triple crown campaign: John Billot describes the England match at Gloucester in his 'History of Welsh International Rugby as "The dawn of the Welsh Golden Era" Thomas played 4 times for Wales and never appeared in a losing Welsh team, his 4th appearance was against England in Cardiff in 1901. It is unknown which match he played in this jersey, unusually during this period players were awarded a jersey per match, whereas a little later it was to be 1 per season. The jersey is by Gardner & Fulford (late of J.C. Stewart) 18 Cross Street, Manchester. The three feathers is a whopping 9.5 cm across with superb detail, it is sewn onto the jersey (not embroidered). J.C. Stewart were an Edinburgh company that had previously supplied the Welsh team with jerseys. it is thought that Mr Fulford may have been the primary contact at Stewart's before moving to Manchester to start his own business. We are searching for a photograph of the Welsh team in 1900 or against England in 1901. Can you help ? Also any information, adverts on the Gardner and Fulford company. CLICK
