BRITISH LIONS 1968 - BARRY JOHN

A match worn British Lions jersey from the 1968 tour of South Africa. Barry John played 4 matches during this tour, he started the first test match and making his 2nd break of the game he was tackled by Jan Ellis breaking his collarbone, he missed the rest of the tour through this injury. The jersey has been signed Barry John 'Lions Tour 1971' for display purposes in a Cardiff night club. Barry John is most famous as a 1971 British Lion becoming a household name in New Zealand following his dazzling displays during the Lions test series win over the All Blacks. However this jersey is from the 1968 tour, The 1971 tour jerseys were manufactured by Umbro and supplied by Lillywhites of Picadilly Circus, the badges were also different - for 1971 the badges were sewn directly on to the shirt whereas in 1968 the badges were sewn onto a patch then onto the jersey. The jersey is size OSM, (approx 40" chest) by RW Forsyth.
