WRM-0955-rfflfrwa1965

A superbly embroidered touch judge's flag from the 27th March 1965 France v Wales international Stade Colombes. France won the match 22-13. It was during this match that touch judge Bernard Marie became the first Frenchman to control a Five Nations match when he replaced the Irish referee Mr Gilliland who twisted his ankle and retired injured just before half time. Marie so impressed the five nations panel that they subsequently invited French officials to become regular members of the refereeing panel.
