JAMES QUINN, ENGLAND - FIRST CAP LATE REPLACEMENT TELEGRAM |
WRM-1070-tl-quinn-enwa1954 |
A late replacement selection telegram to England centre James Quinn, New Brighton, informing him that he is to replace Prentice and play against Wales to win his first England cap 2 days later. The telegram is sent on the Thursday prior to the Saturday match at Twickenham. This was to be Quinn's first England cap. He went on to win a further 4 caps and to tour South Africa with the 1955 British Lions. Ironically 32 years later, on 18 January 1986 Quinn was killed in a car crash driving home from the same England v Wales fixture at Twickenham. The telegram is partnered by the programmes from the 1954 & 1986 fixtures and a modern reproduction England team photograph from the 1954 match. |
