AUSTRALIA 1959 v BRITISH LIONS - DES CONNOR JERSEY - A No 7 Australia international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. The jersey was exchanged with Des Connor in 1969 who opposed him as coach in the Australia v Wales test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Desmond Michael 'Des' Connor played 12 tests for Australia 1957-59 before moving to New Zealand in 1960. The quality of his play was such that he was soon selected to represent his new country. He had the distinction of playing a further 12 tests for the All Blacks between 1961 and 1964. AUSTRALIA 1966-67 INTERNATIONAL JERSEY - STEWART BOYCE - A No 3 international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. Clive played in Swansea's 9-8 victory over the touring Australians and has indicated that the jersey was given to him by Ken Catchpole at that game. The Aussie tour party played each match with tour numbers. Unfortunately the number doesn't match with Ken's, his was number 13 while number 3 belonged to Stewart Boyce. So we must assume therefore, that this jersey belonged to Boyce. AUSTRALIA 1984 GRAND SLAM TOUR - MARK ELLA TEST JERSEY - A 1984 Wallabies No 10 jersey believed to have been worn by the legendary Mark Ella in one of the test matches during the 1984 Grand Slam tour, most likely the Welsh test. During the 1984 tour, Mark Ella became the first Wallaby to score a try in every test match on the tour. The jersey is from the collection of Doug Peel, Llanelli sports promoter and collector. It has a strange mixture of manufacturing details. Cosmetically it looks like an Adidas jersey with the three stripes, however the manufacturer's label states the jersey is made by Peerless in Australia but the collar and button are the style of Canterbury of New Zealand. ENGLAND 1963 v WALES - PETER JACKSON JERSEY - A No 14 England international jersey from the collection of Clive Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. This jersey was worn by the Coventry winger Peter Jackson in Clive's first match for Wales against the old enemy at Cardiff Arms Park. Clive captained the Welsh team, as he did on each of his 14 appearances for Wales. Clive wanted to keep his first Welsh jersey and so that he could have an English one as well, Dewi Bebb, Jackson's opposite number kindly swapped his jersey and presented it to the first cap man so that he would have a pair of jerseys for his first international. |

ENGLAND - AGE GROUP, REPRESENTATIVE & MISC
MIDLAND COUNTIES WEST v ALL BLACKS 1972 VICTORY
JERSEY
A No 3 jersey worn by the prop forward Trevor Corless of Birmingham
in the 16-8 West Midlands victory over Ian Kirkpatrick's All Blacks at Moseley
on 6 Dec 1972. The only Birmingham player in the side, Corless helped the ball
along for Duckham to score the Midlands second try, Doble converted and after
only 8 minutes the Midlanders found themselves 13-0 up against the All Blacks.
The All Blacks eventually managed two tries but a Sam Doble penalty kept them
two scores ahead at the finish to send the 14,000 strong crowd delirious. The
jersey is showing signs of wear with the occasional stain. I suspect it has
been through a wash and was originally in far dirtier condition. A line-out
scene featuring the jersey from the match appears on the front cover of the
February 1973 edition of Rugby World. An interview with Trevor appears on the Moseley
RFC website. "I was fortunate enough to represent Midland Counties West on that famous day. I was loose head; John Gray (Coventry) was hooker with Keith Fairbrother (Coventry) at
tighthead. Duckham was captain, Spratty (otherwise known as Moseley past president Jan Webster) was scrumhalf and the side was coached by Dick Greenwood of Loughborough Colleges fame. The jersey is from the collection of Ron
Lewis, the Welsh international referee (7 tests 1970-1974) who refereed the
match.

NEW ZEALAND
NEW ZEALAND 1905 (v WALES) - A 1905 All Blacks jersey swapped with Welsh player Cliff Pritchard after the match with Wales. Cliff Pritchard was the Welsh 'Rover', the man who supplied the pass to Rhys Gabe who fed Teddy Morgan who scored the try. According to the local newspaper the Pontypool Free Press, Pritchard caught the train home to Pontypool and when he arrived in the station at 11.23 pm he was expecting it to be deserted. The station however was packed with well wishers. They then carried him shoulder high through the streets, It is thought he was wearing this jersey on his lap of honour around Pontypool. |

1924 ALL BLACKS 'INVINCIBLES' JERSEY - GUS HART - The match worn 1924/5 All Blacks jersey of the tourists leading try scorer in Britain, Gus Hart. The jersey has originated from a collection of a leading sports promoter and collector from the Llanelli area and is believed to have been worn in the match with the club in which Gus Hart scored a 60 yard individual try in an 8-3 victory for the All Blacks. The All Black captain Cliff Porter remarked after the game "You gave us a harder game than Wales" (Wales were soundly beaten 19-0 at Swansea four days earlier). This was the last match for the tourists in Wales and they went on to complete the tour unbeaten with the record. played 32, won 32, points for 838, points against 116 CLICK HERE FOR A TOUR SUMMARY AND OTHER INFORMATION ON THIS TOUR |

NEW ZEALAND 1953-4 TOUR (v WALES) - RON JARDEN - A New Zealand All Blacks no 2 jersey from the collection of Rees Stephens, Neath, Wales, Barbarians & British Lions worn by the New Zealand All Black winger Ron Jarden. At the time of his retirement in 1957 Stephens was the most capped Welsh forward with 32 appearances (not including 5 uncapped). Other milestones in his career included becoming the first father & son combination to captain Wales, (his father Glyn captained wales in 1919) and scoring Wales' first 5 Nations post war try against England in 1947 and playing in the last Welsh team to defeat the All Blacks in 1953. It is from this match that we believe the jersey originates, after defeating the All Blacks we are certain that Rees would have sought out an All Black to obtain a conquerors trophy. Later on in the tour he played against the All Blacks, captaining the Neath & Aberavon combined team and for the Barbarians in the final fixture of the tour. The jersey has a label which is faded, they is colour run onto the silver fern and collar, Rees has written his name to the back of the collar. |

7 New Zealand All Blacks international jersey from the collection of Clive
Rowlands, Wales 1963-65. This jersey was worn by All Black scrum half

Previously Wales had beaten the All Blacks on three occasions at the
Arms Park (1905, 1935 & 1953) with the All Blacks winning in
Swansea in 1924. This victory brought New Zealand within one victory

NEW ZEALAND ALL BLACKS - RICHIE McCAW No 7 CAP v SOUTH AFRICA - at Wellington 20th July 2002. A jersey from one of the greatest, if not the greatest All Black of all time. Richie McCaw. Richie has 148 caps for New Zealand, captaining the All Blacks in 110 of those appearances. He was the first All Black to reach 100 international appearances for New Zealand. This jersey is from McCaw's 7th cap and his first ever appearance against the Springboks in Wellington, on 20th July 2002. At the time this was the 2nd highest victory ever recorded for the All Blacks against the Boks in what is traditionally the most hotly contested international fixture in rugby union. In the same season McCaw famously wrestled pitch invader Peter van Zyl to the ground in the return fixture at Durban. That year he was voted the 'Newcomer of the Year' by the 'International Rugby Players Association'. In later seasons he has been nominated for the IRB Player of Year on eight occasions winning it a record three times. The No 7 jersey by Adidas is size 48/50" chest with the match details embroidered (in black) to the arm. the Silver Fern and 'Richard McCaw 7th cap' are embroidered (in black) near the bottom hemline. The jersey was exchanged post match with Corne Krige, the Springbok captain and sold by Krige as a charity auction with the proceeds going to his designated charity in his Western Province farewell week. |

WALES late 1930s - WELSH SCHOOLS - JACKIE BOWCOTT - 'C' JERSEY - A Wales or Welsh Schools jersey, letter C. The jersey belonged to one of the Bowcott brothers, Harry or Jackie, most likely it is a schools jersey that belonged to Jackie, The historian Tim Auty has researched the Bowcott's playing in the schools teams and says that Harry played in a number 6 jersey in 1926 while in the Yorkshire 1928 match the Welsh team wore lettered jerseys. Jackie Bowcott played for Welsh schools against France in 1928 & 1929 & against Yorkshire in 1929, we have not seen the team lists for any of these matches but believe that it is most likely that this was Jackie's jersey from one of these matches. |

WALES 1947 JERSEY - BLEDDYN WILLIAMS - (22 caps, 1st cap v England 1947, last cap v England 1955) - Bleddyn Williams was captain of the last Welsh team to beat the All Blacks in 1953, he also captained Cardiff in their victory against the same All Blacks side and 3 times led the 1950 British Lions in tests on their tour of Australia & NZ. He was an elusive runner and scored 7 tries for Wales including one against the 1951 Springboks. This jersey was worn in the 1947 match for Wales against the touring Australian Wallabies and exchanged post match with Bleddyn's opposite centre Max Howell. Max took it back to Australia and years later framed it. Unfortunately it's seen a bit too much sun and the front is faded, the letter 'C' on the reverse too has faded. Bleddyn Williams jerseys are extremely rare, several we believe perished in a fire at the Taff's Well clubhouse. Max Howell went on to write over 50 books including "The Wallabies, The definitive history of Australian Test Rugby". He was awarded the 'Order of Australia' for service to education as a pioneer in the development of sports studies and sports science as academic disciplines, both in Australia and overseas and to the study of sports history. |
