DR JACK MATTHEWS OBE
BOOK COLLECTION
Dr Jack Matthews is one of Wales' great sporting characters. he was capped 17 times for Wales (1947 - 1951) and 6 times for the British Lions (1950). His centre partnership with the legendary Bleddyn Williams for Cardiff, Wales and the British Lions is regarded as one of the greatest ever and his crash tackling earned him the nickname of 'Iron Man'. Although known mainly for his rugby career where he was also the medical officer for the 1980 British Lions, Dr Jack as he is affectionately known, also won the Welsh junior 220 yards athletics title in 1937 but more impressively he is reputed to have fought the great Rocky Marciano to a draw in an amateur contest during the second world war. This selection of books are from the Dr Jack Matthews collection and each comes with an accompanying certificate of authenticity. |
